Storytelling in Film

Story

- The set of all the events in cause-effect relationship occuring in time and space, both the ones explicitly presented and those the viewer infers, constitutes the story

- What happened?

Plot

- Everything visibly and audibly present in the film, and material that is extraneous to the story world

- Why and how it happened?

3 Act Structure

- Beginning / Setup - Introduction of a story

- Middle - Confrontation of a problem

- End / Conclusion - Resolution of problems

Project 2: Shooting Practise & Editing

Process

Round 1

Video 1.1. Draft 1

My group and I planned the day and date to meet and shoot at the park but it started raining and we had to go indoors. The only empty place we could find last minute was an empty class on campus. The idea was to shoot this and have a reshoot another week as this would just be a draft.

Round 2

Video 2.1. Draft 2

The next week we shot this, my groupmate, Gina, suggested we change song to a more upbeat, lively one. Her idea was to have it seem like it was National Service Training to the song "The Eye of the Tiger". So, we shot multiple random clips from random angles doing random things. When I got home, I pieced it together and made Video 2.1. My idea behind it was more of a teaser trailer instead of a music video as it made more sense storyline wise.

Process

Round 1 (Draft 1)

- Some shots are too overexposed and some underexposed

- You do not necessarily need to dance, you can do anything
