Song Proposals and Eliminations
Attachment 1.1. Song Proposals
We had our first song proposal idea, went through the songs and voted.
However, due to certain group not liking the song due to personal
reasons, the group was understanding and went through a second round
of song proposals. We then voted, discussed and landed with 2 runner
up choices. We continued on to our Art Direction which essentially
helped us imagine which song we would prefer working on better. We
finally settled on Levitating by Dua Lipa

After much research, brainstorming, discussion and changes, we
finalised our art direction. We had the idea to have our lyrics
bright, fun and pop-like to match Dua Lipa's song.

As group leader, I created the lyrics seperation and gave 2 choices to
the group as to how we would seperate the lyrics. The first was by
repetition of lyrics and the other was by amount of total lines.
However, since there were 7 group members, it was hard to get
everything even. I refused to divide the whole song up into 7 parts
and each member take their own chunk as I feared it would be obvious
when finally stitched together. The group then decided to seperate the
lyrics by repetition of lyrics and my chunk of lyrics was the first
part of the chorus.

FEEDBACK
Week 2
First Draft a
- "All night" can be in a different colour/font/size to make it
stand out
- "Moonlight" is a little early
- "Levitating" can be bigger and better. Have it floating or
something
- Can be a fun outcome
Week 3
Group Progression
- Group has good progression
- Art direction is noticable
- Narrow down fonts to 3 only, keep Audiowide though
REFLECTIONS
Experience
I always thought kinetic type would be really fun to do but from working on this project, I learnt that I do not find it to be as fun as I imagined it would be. The process is quite similar to video editing, which is also something I do not enjoy. Working on this project as a group was quite tough since the group had very different ideas/preferences and it took us quite a long time to reach a middle ground. To be honest, I am quite disappointed with the outcome as I feel that we could have done better but it was hard to get every members to be on the same page when we were also running out of time.
Observations
I realised that I need to improve my communication skills as I had trouble with communicating with my group members sometimes. Often times I have ideas in my head but I am unable to communicate it out in a manner that others can fully comprehend. This slows their work process down as I will constantly ask them to change things one by one instead of having it done in one shot.
Findings
From this project I realised that as a leader, I needed to be less lenient when a group struggles with making decisions due to creative/personal differences and preferences. As a leader, I should be more decisive while also taking in every members, or majority members, interest. This would save the group alot more time while also give everyone a clear picture of what goal to work towards.
